Dear Issa,
If there was any history of abdominal surgery involving manipulation of the bowels and peritoneum, then adhesions can form and lead to intestinal obstruction.
The time period to form symptomatic adhesions that present with intestinal obstruction can vary. However, it can be present after such a duration of 2 and a half years, as you described.
X ray erect abdomen with both hemi diaphragms can be advised to look for signs of intestinal obstruction. Nil by mouth, IV fluids to prevent dehydration, bowel rest, NG suction , electrolyte correction, kleen enema , ( per rectal) are initially employed as conservative management.
In partial obstruction these measures tend to resolve the symptoms. If the obstruction is not relieved then surgical removal / lysis of the adhesions would be considered after due assessment by your treating physician/ surgeon. Your son would require hospital admission for proper management if its indeed intestinal obstruction.
